We appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin and how did you get to where you are today?
I immigrated from Venezuela more than 20 years ago. Since then, my professional life has revolved around the area of graphic arts, specifically graphic design.
At the end of 2020, the world was transformed by the arrival of COVID and to this we had to add that it was an election year in this country, so people, including me, were with a mixture of anger, pain, and uncertainty.
Many businesses started having problems and some of my clients cut their marketing budget. At that moment, I had more time on my hands, I decided to use it to create.
I picked up my paint brush once again and started painting unique and colorful cheese boards and trays to help overcome the fear, insecurity, and anger swirling around me. The smiles and the delight my friends and family expressed when I gifted them my creations gave me the courage to start, Hivedeco, an artisanal home décor business, at the peak of the pandemic in 2021.
I am making a name for myself through word of mouth, social media, and pop-up shops, and I receive frequent orders from across the country for the customized cheese boards. I gave in, into my passion during the pandemic, provided for my family and am now living the American dream.
"I love to give life and color to utilitarian pieces and generate smiles in everyone who acquires them." I like to say that “I create gifts where a smile is also included.”

I'm so thankful you began painting because people need your work. Your art is vibrant, beautiful, and moving. Where do you find your inspiration for your art?
God and all his creation is my main source of inspiration. In the same way, my main mission is to generate a smile through my art, so every time a client places an order with me, I listen carefully to what they want and try to translate it into the final result and achieve my purpose. So, when I imagine that final smile, it is enough reason as inspiration.

That's beautiful. Is there a specific environment or material that's integral to your work?
The most important materials I work with are wood and acrylic paints, but it is very important for me to try to make all the materials biodegradable and contribute to the well-being of the planet.
That's amazing. Tell us about your techniques for overcoming artistic blocks.
I look for inspiration in seeing the creations of artists I admire and that helps me a lot, ahhh and coffee, that's very important (laughs).
Haha. I'm with you on that one! I need my coffee every day. Tell us, we all have a different way of looking at and defining success, but how do you define success?
Success, for me, will always be about making a difference in other people's lives. If I know that at the end of the day my work has been the cause of a moment of happiness in someone's life, then I sleep well at night and wake up eager to start work all over again the next day.
Amen. Where do you see Hive Deco in the future?
I would love to have my own store with my creations. Make it a store where people feel like family and always welcomed.
I have no doubt that will come to fruition. Thank you again for meeting with us. It was an absolute pleasure!
