We appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin and how did you get to where you are today?

A few years ago, when the pandemic was happening, I spent a lot of time with my kids. As a mom with 2 wild boys, I needed to make sure we had lots of activities. My oldest son, Dominic, had this infatuation with these little bear wax melts. I had at least a dozen boxes of them in different scents. He would throw some in my warmer and watch them melt. He got creative after awhile and would start mixing scents. He then would have these little circle discs that were colored from wax and all smelled differently and would create many many scents; he loved it. He kept asking me to buy more of this or that. He said to me, "Mom, we need to sell these, they smell so good. People will buy them." As people came over, he would try and get them to buy a circle disco or 2 for $1. It was really cute. He said, "mom we can call these Room Smells as it will make people's home smell good." So, I thought let me buy some candle kits and wax melt molds and do this. This is how it all started.

I chose candles because I fell in love with wooden wicks. I loved being in my room at night listening to the crackling of the wick. It was calming and super relaxing. Plus the amazing smell that comes from burning a candle; it’s like heaven in a jar. I knew candles would be my main focus as I wanted everyone to experience what I felt when I lit my candle.

There really is nothing like the sound of a crackling candle #superrelaxing. Let's move to a more business related question. For our readers who are starting their own business, what has been your biggest challenge being a business owner and how have you overcome it?

My biggest challenge has been time management. I have 2 small kiddos, 3 and 7 and they are active and keep me busy. Trying to find time to work on my business and create is a challenge. My process is probably slower than others, but it’s what works for me. Everything is done out of my home so I have boxes and materials in all the rooms of my house. I actually run from room to room to grab things and do things. This summer I have been focused on creating a space or area for me to work on all things. Less time running and more time focused. I have also reached out for help on a lot of my back-end things: paperwork, accounting, my website as these things take up so much of my time. I needed to learn to delegate more as I it will help my business grow. It’s the first step I’ve taken.

We agree. Help from others can be crucial when looking to expand a business. What's your number 1 strategy you've used to increase your sales?

I've noticed that when I am constant on social media, posting, creating content and doing something daily and consistently my sales blossom. I think it’s the hardest part of the business as coming up with daily content and stories is tough. My suggestion is to try and create content for a few weeks at a time to make life easier for you.

Great tip! On the days you feel like giving up, what motivates you to keep going?

Ahhhh my kiddos and my hubs. My kids are clueless as to many things like they still say I stay home all day and don’t work. Lol However they see me up late packing boxes and orders and they see all my supplies throughout the house so they know mommy does something, just not 100% sure what. AND that’s okay cuz as they grow and understand they will see. My oldest still says Room Smells is his company and I just do all the work. My husband, who works so hard to provide for our family, is my biggest supporter and helps with all those FUN candle names. I want to be able to give him more financially to support our family as it grows so when he retires he can come help me. Haha.

I can sense the love you feel for your family. It's awesome. Where do you see Roomsmells.co 5 years?

Well I’m hoping to see growth each year. As I have my products in many boutiques, I’d love to expand to other areas of the US. I’d love to be noticed more and be able to expand to a small warehouse and have an office and candle making space. I want to be able to have a small spot where I can do candle parties and a place where people can come to shop. I love where I am now, but growing is something I’m working at daily.
